Abstract

1,238,714. Forming selvedges in shuttleless looms. CROMPTON & KNOWLES CORP. 18 June, 1968 [30 June, 1967], No. 29023/68. Headings DIE and D1K. In a selvedge of the kind formed by knitting a selvedge thread through the looped ends of double picks inserted by a weft inserting needle, two selvedge threads are used alternately whereby the knitted chain is less likely to run if one thread breaks. The two selvedge threads are presented to the knitting needle in turn by cam-operated eyelets. In the case of fabric woven with an elastic warp, an extra selvedge thread 114 (or as shown, two extra threads 114, 118), may be knitted occasionally and then floated whilst the two normal selvedge threads are being used; when the fabric relaxes, the extra threads project from the edge of as decorative loops.
