1506597 Shuttleless looms W C ARNOLD 25 May 1976 [29 May 1975] 23508/75 Heading D1E A loom has half healds 19 which shed the warp 14, 15 and also shog to cross the warps a weft layer 22 which lays a single weft 27 when the warps 14, 15 are shed to the Fig. 1 position, and a weft inserter 29 which inserts a loop of weft 30 when the warps are in the Fig. 2 position. The weft loop 30 is knitted at the far selvedge with or without a catch thread. There may be more than one weft layer 22 with weft selection, a weft inserter 29 operating from each side of the loom with its selvedge knitter at its far side, the warps may be shogged more than one dent in either direction, one set of warps may be shogged but not shed, and, in addition to shedding and shogging, one set of half healds may carry out an elliptical path towards the fell to beat up the weft, the layer laying the single weft when the healds are in the upper position and the inserter inserting loops when the healds are in the lower position so that beat-up occurs every other pick. The warps 14, 15 are guided by combs 12, 13 and the wefts may also be guided by eyes in their path from the bobbins 31 to the layers/inserts.
