848,822. Narrow fabrics with multi-ply edges. BONAS BROS. Ltd. Oct. 15, 1958 [Oct. 24, 1957], No. 33184/57. Class 142(4). A narrow fabric with a multi-ply edge is woven in a shuttleless loom, the end of the weft loops being knitted. In the embodiment shown, a two-ply edge with warps 1-18 is woven by two weft insertion needles alternately inserted from the flap side; the combined shedding motion for both flaps is 3 and 1 while the resultant weave for each flap is 1 and 1. The fabric may be used for a zip fastener tape, in which case the body warp ends are of stretchable yarn which shrinks when the tension is removed so that resultant tape is radiused. When the zip fastener teeth are secured the extra length of the flap is taken up. The fabric may have more than two flaps, or the flaps may be brought together to form a tube.
