Abstract

Piston-rings are made from a cast iron alloy containing up to 2,8 per cent of carbon, up to 3 per cent of silicon, and 0,5-2,5 per cent of molybdenum, the melt being superheated and agitated at 1500-1900 DEG C., and the castings being soaked for about 4 hours at 950 DEG C., quenched in oil at 815 DEG C., reheated to 750 DEG C., and cooled in air. The rings may be cast singly or produced from centrifugally cast pots.
