Abstract
476,142. Coke ovens. KOHLEUND EISENFORSCHUNG GES. Feb. 4, 1937, Nos. 3262, 3263, and 3264. Convention dates, Feb. 15, 1936, June 27, 1936, and June 27, 1936. [Class 55 (i)] For increasing the yield of benzol, the gascollecting space 3 above the charge is connected to a passage 1, arranged in the roof of the oven, by openings 5 provided with extensions 4 protruding into the gas space, these extensions preferably being so arranged that they may be withdrawn upwards before the charge levelling rod is inserted. Stationary gas layers 6 are formed between the extensions 4, the walls of which may be tapered downwards as in Fig. 3. Figs. 6 and 7 show an extension of the passage 1 into a channel 9 which may contain a packing 11 of granular siliceous material through which the gases pass to the outlet 10. This extension is maintained at 650 to 800‹ C. to facilitate cracking of the distillates. The extensions 4 in the form of oven shown in Fig. 1, may be provided with cooling channels in their walls, and cooled to below 650‹ C. so that cracking of the distillates is avoided and yield of light tars increased.
