434,403. Coke ovens. STILL GES., C., Recklinghausen, Westphalia, Germany. April 3, 1935, No. 10361. Convention date, April 26, 1934. [Class 55 (i)] In the production of low or medium temperature coke, the oven chamber is divided along its length into a number of radiation spaces between which the fuel is contained and carbonized. In one form, iron members 5, H-shaped in cross section, are inserted into the oven chamber either before or after charging. In another form, Figs. 3 and 4, hollow retorts 6 are filled with coal and suspended in the chamber from a bar 8. These retorts may be suspended from a chain introduced into, and withdrawn from the oven at the same side of the coking chamber. The dimension of the fuel spaces, measured along the length of the chamber, is less than that of the width of the chamber.
