Abstract
485,244. Coke ovens; coking processes. OTTO & CO., GES., DR. C. June 1, 1937, Nos. 15206, 15207, and 15208. Convention dates, July 18, 1936, July 30, 1936, and Feb. 13,1937. [Class 55 (i)] In the production of low and medium temperature coke from fine grain coal in intermittently operated chamber ovens, metal members are inserted in the heating chambers, and have partitions 5 which subdivide the chambers into compartments, the length to the width of each chamber being greater than 5 to 1. The temperature in the heating flues is maintained at not less than 1000‹ C. as in high temperature coking, and spaces may be left between the metal members and the chamber walls through which heat is transmitted by radiation and convection. The partitions 5 have a mean thickness of at least one quarter of the distance between them, the width of a compartment being 70 mm. In the chamber 1, vertical I-section iron beams are suspended by chains over sprocket wheels 9, the chains being attached to sprocket wheels 11 by rotation of which the beams may be raised to facilitate discharge of the coke. The distillates escape through spaces 14 into pipe 15, and main 16. Bars 17 movable by handles 18 separate the charge in the ovens from cooling chambers 19 enclosed by water jackets 21, and provided with metal members 20 similar to those in the oven chambers.
