Cooling discharged materials.-Coal is charged into receptacles such as 1 which are closed by covers, 5 and rolled through a heating chamber 3 into a cooling chamber 4 in which the heat acquired during the coking operations is recovered. A part of the chamber 3 may be used as the cooling chamber. The process may be applied to carbonization of fuel and ore briquettes. The receptacles may have heating or cooling ribs.
