Abstract
314,078. Roser, E. June 23, 1928, [Convention date]. Retorts. - In the destructive distillation of bituminous fuel, the fine granular charge is firmly compacted into tubular containers which are charged outside the furnace and then inserted into vertical retorts and, after being heated, passed into cooling tubes. Distilling tubes or retorts c extend into a combustion chamber b and lead into cooling tubes d provided with cooling jackets e which may be cooled by water to provide steam for use in the distilling operation. The distillates pass to a hydraulic main m. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that the fuel may be charged directly into the tubes c into which it is pressed by plungers h on a truck g. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
