Abstract

225,513. Kohlenscheidungs-Ges. Nov. 28, 1923, [Convention date]. Coking processes; retorts.-In distilling bituminous material at low temperatures, the charge is suddenly subjected to a temperature above the normal one of 500‹ C. so that it is quickly raised to this temperature and then immediately on reaching it is moved into a zone of normal temperature. The material is charged into a retort a through an inlet b and is highly heated in a zone d having a temperature of 700‹ C. and disposed directly over the fire place e. A screw conveyer g having threads of steep pitch in the hot zone moves the material quickly through the zone d and more slowly through the zone f where it is heated to the normal distilling temperature. The gases &c. escape through a pipe h from the hot zone in which heavy constituents are cracked into light oils.
