Abstract
<PICT:0417652/III/1> Tar is distilled by the waste heat from coal gas retorts by flowing the tar from an inlet 33 through a long narrow closed trough 30 placed alongside the retort setting 39 and provided with coils 36, 37 through which the waste gases from the setting are circulated. The trough is provided with sills 32, a residue exit pipe 34, and a pipe 41 through which vapours are removed to condensers.
