366,414. Coal gas and water gas plant. DESSAUER VERTIKAL-OFENGES., 90, Westfalischestrasse, Wilmersdorf, Berlin. July 15, 1931, No. 20332. Convention date, July 30, 1930. [Classes 55 (i) and 55 (ii).] In the production of a mixture of coal gas and water gas, the latter is continuously produced in an externally heated retort and is mixed without substantial cooling, with coal gas produced in an independent retort. The mixing takes place at a temperature between the condensing point and the cracking point of the heavy hydrocarbons in the gas, namely 400-500‹ C. The retort a<1> filled with coal is heated externally by gas from a generator d, and the retort a<2>, containing low grade fuel such as coke similarly and previously heated to a temperature of 700-800‹ C., is steamed from a pipe i. The gases mix in a space o above the fuel in the water gas retort, the temperature of this space being regulated by dampers in the external flues. The distilled fuel in the retort a<1> may also be steamed. In a modification, a single retort is divided into two chambers for the production of coal gas and water gas respectively, the mixing chamber being above the water gas compartment.
