Abstract

171,203. Barrelle, A. Baille-. Aug. 20, 1920. Drawings to Specification. Coking processes.-Coal is first brought as rapidly as possible to the temperature at which it begins to agglomerate, and is then gradually heated at a sufficiently slow rate not to allow the formation of a "partition" region which contains a large amount of tar and is impervious to gases and heat. After agglomeration throughout its entire mass, it is brought to the final temperature at which it gives off all the volatile matter. According to an example, the coal is first raised quickly to 300‹ C., then heated to 600‹ C. at a rate of increase of temperature of 50‹ C. per hour.
