Abstract
451,486. Coke - oven doors. OTTO & CO., GES., DR. C., 9, Christstrasse, Bochum, Germany. March 9, 1936, Nos. 7027 and 7028. Convention dates, July 20, 1935 and July 9, 1935. [Class 55 (i)] A self-sealing coke-oven door is made with a refractory lining of layers of blocks held by one or more vertical metal bars, each layer having at least two blocks, the inner vertical faces of which abut to form joints which include hollow spaces for accommodating the bars, in such a manner that the blocks can be removed or replaced singly without having to dismantle the entire lining. The door supporting member 1 is fitted with a cross-bar 2 engaging behind hooks 3, and with screw bolts 5 which press on to closing flanges 6 of a flexible plate 7. Figs. 1c and 1d show in horizontal section the arrangement of blocks in two adjacent superposed layers. A central block 11 is flanked by two lateral blocks 12, while the next layer consists of a front block 13 and rear block 14, vertical retaining bars 15 passing through cavities in the joints between the blocks. Between successive layers are formed horizontal grooves into which pegs 9 of refractory material are inserted. In Fig. 4a, two adjacent layers are held together in pairs by a locking block 25 which may be withdrawn towards the oven chamber, and which extends through the packing. The formation of this block makes it impossible for the blocks 22, 23 to slip out laterally.
