436,992. Coke - oven doors. GAS CHAMBERS & COKE OVENS, Ltd., and LYMN, A. H., Artillery House, Artillery Row, Westminster. Oct. 4, 1934, No. 28414. Addition to 381,118. [Class 123 (i)] [See also Group XII] In a coke-oven door of the kind described in the parent Specification, and in which a rigid door frame coacts with a metal door having two or more metal-to-metal seals, at least one of which is flexible, both seals are flexible, the outer seal being of the same nature as the inner flexible seal of the parent Specification. In a modification, the outer seal may be provided with asbestos or other non-metallic packing. In Fig. 1, the inner seal is formed by flexible steel plates 3 mounted at the rear of a plate 5 to which the door is secured by brackets 11. The plates 3 bear against the inclined surface of the frame 1 as also do the flexible plates 6 of the outer seal. Lugs 8 on screwed spindles 8<a> may be adjusted to allow for warping of the frame 1. Locking bars 9 engaging behind retaining members 10 thrust on the door when it is locked. In Fig. 2, the outer seal consists of flexible plates 25 which carries asbestos packing 26 in a holder formed by a metal strip 27 and angle iron 28. Set-screws 29 in brackets 30 have reduced ends which pass through the plates 25 and press on a metal backing 32 supporting the asbestos packing which is forced forward to an amount. determined by the thickness of washers 33. The door frame 1 is insulated from, and mechanically attached to, the main door frame so that it does not partake of the distortion of the latter. A free passage for gas from the bottom of the oven to the top is provided in the space between the plate 5 and the holders 12 for the refractory lining 13.
