Abstract

381,118. Coke oven and like doors. GAS CHAMBERS & COKE OVENS, Ltd. and LYMN, A. H., Artillery House, Artillery Row, Victoria Street, London. April 28, 1932, No. 12216. [Class 123 (i).] A closure for coke ovens, retorts or the like comprises a rigid metal door frame 1 coacting with a metal door having two metal-to-metal seals, at least one of which is adjustable to allow for distortion. In the form shown, the outer seal 5 consists of mild steel plates secured to the webs 4 of the joists 4a, 4b, the front flanges 4a carrying bridge members 14 provided with set screws 13 which bear on and adjust the plates 5. To the inner flanges 4b is attached a plate 10 to which are bolted lugs 11 which are provided with set screws 12 to adjust the pressure of the inner flexible members 6 against the edges 1b of the door frame. Brackets 7, which space the holder 8 of the refractory lining 9 from the plate 10, provide a space through which distillates may pass freely from the bottom of the oven to the top, inside the inner seal 6.
