Abstract
492,376. Coke ovens. KOPPERS CO. Feb. 15, 1937, No. 4562. Convention date, Feb. 14, 1936. [Class 51 (ii)] Walls.-In a coke oven battery the wall face between each two adjoining oven doorways is formed with a vertical recess extending between the opposed edges of metal door-frame face-plates 14 and this recess is filled by brickwork 18 forming a barrier to the leakage of gas beneath the face-plates. As shown the bricks 27, 28 constituting the wall face are shaped and spaced to form the recess for the brickwork 18 and also an offset recess for filler bricks 29. The face-plates 14 are spaced from the brickwork by lugs 30, and the gap is packed with fibrous material such as rock wool or asbestos at 24 and 25, with granular material in the space 26, and with cement at the edge joints. Closeable openings 31 are provided to allow renewal of the granular filling 26. The bricks 18 are preferably large enough to extend outwards beyond the inner flanges of the buckstays 13.
