Abstract

838,717. Coke-oven doors. SIMON-CARVES Ltd. May 22, 1957 [May 26, 1956], No. 16222/57. Class 55 (1). In a coke-oven door comprising a metallic outer door 16 and a refractory inner plug formed of individual bricks, anchorage members 25 are provided each of which has a horizontal portion in the joint between two bricks 18, 19 with upwardly and/or downwardly extending projections to engage corresponding grooves 27, 28 in the bricks and a member 24 to slidably engage the outer door. The metallic outer door 16 has a pair of Z-section irons 21 bolted thereto to form a cavity 23 which opens towards the interior of the oven and which receives the bolts 24 welded to the anchorage members 25. In a modification the slit opening from cavity 23 is made narrower and the members 25 are correspondingly notched. In another form, Fig. 5b, the sheet-like members 30 widen towards the oven, the projections being formed by cutting the members at their ends and bending a central portion 31 upwardly and two outer portions 32 downwardly.
