Abstract

779,953. Coke oven doors. PAYNBROOK ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Nov. 17, 1955 [Jan. 5, 1955], No. 361/55. Addition to 733,016. Class 55 (1). A coke oven door 11, Fig. 3, as in the parent Specification, comprising a metal frame 13 fitted with a brickwork plug or lining 14, directed into an end opening 15 of the oven, and having a vertical duct 21 in the plug with its bottom end located just above the sole 31, Fig. 1, and its upper end emerging above the charge level 18, has the outlets 25 of duct 21 in the side vertical walls 28 of the door which are adjacent to and spaced from the side walls 33 of the oven. Branch ducts 26 emerge in the side walls 28 below the charge level 18. A vertical duct 32 may be located in each side wall 33 of the oven opening, with ports above the sole 31 and below the crown 20. In a modification two vertical ducts are provided in the brickwork lining 14, each having one outlet 25, the two outlets being located in the opposed side walls 28. In a further form the outlets 25 are at different levels in the two walls 28.
