Coke ovens. - In a vertically-flued horizontal coke oven each flue has two or more verticallydelivering fuel gas inlets opening at their upper ends at different levels into the flue. In the construction shown the inlets H<1> of one set open into the flues at the level of the oven sole, while those J<1> of other set deliver at a higher level. Separate or common gas supplies may be arranged for the two sets of inlets and in the former case one or both of the supply conduits is fitted with a flow-controlling device consisting of a removable metal disc with a calibrated aperture. The upper parts of the conduits J<1> may be formed by registering apertures in bricks bonded into the partition walls between the flues. Specification 294,992 is referred to.
