Abstract

442,317. Coke ovens. OTTO & CO., GES., DR. C., 9, Christstrasse, Bochum, Germany. Dec. 7, 1934, No. 35228. Convention date, June 5. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, June 8, 1935.] [Class 55 (i)] A horizontal gas-collecting channel 6 is formed in the central longitudinal plane of the oven cover, and leads by an ascension pipe 9 to a gas main 10, and by a number of openings to the gas collecting space 12. The channel 6 extends through the filling holes and the vertical channels 4 used in making ducts 3 in the charge, the filling holes being provided with dampers 25 and being arranged to receive filling hoppers 24 which extend through the channel 6 to prevent the deposit of coal in the channel during charging. The dampers 25 have central openings to permit the passage of distillates, and a damper 13 may completely close the opening below the ascension pipe 9. A second ascension pipe 27 leads to a gas equalizing channel 28 which is cooled by a spray from a nozzle 31 and equalizes the pressure in the gas collecting spaces of the various oven chambers. Dampers 29, 30 are provided for shutting off the ascension pipe. Rails 26 are mounted on the oven cover, and a cleaning door 23 closes the end of the channel 6.
