Abstract
460,766. Crematory furnaces. BIRMINGHAM ELECTRIC FURNACES, Ltd., and LOBLEY, A. G. July 2, 1935, No. 18953. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii)] [Also in Group XI] In a crematory furnace of the kind in which the gases from the incineration chamber a are burnt in a secondary combustion chamber f, and then passed through a recuperator e, independently-controlled resistors c, f<2> are provided in the air supply system and the secondary combustion chamber respectively. Further independently-controlled resistors are also fitted in the incineration chamber for supplying top and bottom heat. In the construction shown diagrammatically in the Figure air supplied by the fan g passes through the recuperator e and the flue d containing the resistors c, and enters the chamber a through ports d<1> beneath the coffin supports. The products of combustion pass through the chamber f<2>, flue f<3>, and the tubes e<1> of the recuperator, and are exhausted by the fan h. The fans are so controlled that atmospheric pressure is maintained in the chamber a. The chamber f may contain slabs of firebrick or other refractory catalytic material. The resistors are used primarily in heating-up the furnace before the coffin is placed in the chamber a, but they may be employed as desired during incineration.
