Abstract
459,830. Rotary engines; stuffing-box substitutes. ENGLEBERT, jun., H. J. V. W., 145, Theresiastraat, and OPIJNEN, jun., J. VAN, 106, Weimarstraat, both in The Hague. May 29, 1936, No. 15274. [Classes 110 (ii) and 122 (v)] A rotary engine forming part of a hydraulic transmission gear comprises a rotating casing 1 having vanes 10 sliding in slots therein, and contacting, through packing pieces 11 with an eccentric portion 9b of a fixed shaft 9. The vanes have trunnions 12 which engage blocks 13 on each side. These blocks slide in grooves 21 in two side discs 27, 28, to cause the packing pieces 11 to bear constantly on the fixed portion 9b. Inlet ports 17a, 17b, lead from conduits in the shaft 9 to admit liquid by way of a slot 19, to a space 25 and impel the rotor 1 in the direction of the arrow. Outlet ports 17c, 17d, allow liquid to pass along the shaft 9 on its return to a pump having, preferably, a variable output. The disc 2 is packed by a ring 6 provided with a diaphragm 7 clamped in position by a nut 5 and a spring ring 8 which has a number of tongues 8a projecting from it.
