Abstract
459,681. Gauge glasses. DEWRANCE, SIR J., 165, Great Dover Street, Southwark, London. Nov. 23, 1935, No. 32501. [Class 123 (i)] [See also Group XXIX] The upper and lower connections 1, 1<a> of a gauge glass are of identical construction, each having a plug cock 2. AT-head 1<c> is provided with a threaded boss 1<d> to receive a gland nut 3, and with a threaded boss 1<e> to receive a plug cap 6 on the upper connection or a blow-off cock 7 on the lower connection. A safety-ball valve 8 is arranged in the lower connection and rests on a slotted seating 9. The lower end of the glass 5 rests on a member 10, and the upper end is prevented from lifting unduly by a plug 6<a>. Closure screws 11 are provided for each of the fittings. The plug cock 2 is provided with a sleeve packing 2<a> of compressible material with metal ferrules 2b as described in Specification 8661/01, [Class 135]. The packing is cylindrical externally, and is held in a transverse bore between plugs 12, 12<a> the latter being bored to receive the spindle 13 of the plug 2. The packing 2<a> is conical internally to receive the plug 2, and the plug assemblage is reversible in the connection 1. The blow-off cock 7 may be constructed in a similar manner.
