663,620. Stuffing-boxes. SOC. ANON. DES ETABLISSEMENTS J. COCARD. Nov. 27, 1947 [April 21, 1943], No. 31413/47. Class 122(v) [Also in Groups XXV and XXIX] The stuffing-box 21 of a screw-down lift valve is formed with an integral extension 3 which is slotted to receive a bridle 24 and is threaded externally to receive a nut 23 whereby the bridle, which extends beyond the periphery of the extension or cap 3 presses a packing gland 22 into the stuffing-box 21. The valve stem 9 is screwed into a nut 47 supported in the extension 3 and prevented from rotating by a pin 8. The bridle has a slot 25 to embrace the valve stem 9. A ring 14 secured by a pin 14a limits the axial movement of the stem 9. The nut 23 is locked in position by a bar 36 fixed to the valve body 1 and engaging one of the grooves 37<SP>1</SP>-37<SP>6</SP>. The ring 13 is a force fit in the stuffing-box.
