Abstract
613,520. Valve accessories. KUGLER FONDERIE ET ROBINETTERIE SOC. ANON. Oct. 3, 1945, No. 25692. Convention date, Oct. 11, 1944. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXVI] In a valve having a non-reciprocating actuating spindle, an annular member forming part of and conforming with the profile of the valve casing is rotatable,to adjust the pressure on the spindle packing. The annular member 18, Fig. 1, positioned between a handle 8 and the valve cap 11, has a square-sectioned bore engaging the squared end of a gland sleeve 14 threaded into the valve cap, so that rotation of a suitable key co-operating with flats or grooves 19 on the annular member, imparts axial movement to the gland sleeve and adjusts the pressure on the spindle packing 16. In a modification, lugs 21, Fig. 3, on the annular member slide in grooves in a threaded sleeve 9, forming the connecting union between the valve cap 23 and the valve body 1, and thus relative rotation of the cap and the annular member adjusts the pressure on the packing ring 24. In a further construction, a manually rotatable dome-shaped annular member 36, Fig. 5, having indentations 35 in sliding engagement with grooves in the threaded gland sleeve 32, forms a protective casing enclosing the upper portion of the valve.
