Abstract

1,190,651. Valves. R. E. SELF. 21 July, 1967, No. 33688/67. Heading F2V. A valve has a seat port 23 with an annular recess 36 formed therearound, and a resiliently deformable sealing ring 41 of plastics or metal disposed therein, a sleeve 42 positioned in the port and having a lip 43 abutting the ring and restricting movement away from a surface 24, a spindle 12 supporting a closure member 52 so as to be movable axially, the closure member having a shoulder 59 of external diameter equal to the external diameter of the lip 43, and engageable with an end face of the sleeve to progressively cause the lip to compress the ring 41 into the recess 36, and the shoulder 59 to enter the seat port 23. Excess axial movement of the sleeve 42 is prevented by a snap ring 48 engaged in a groove 46 in the port, and a recess 47 in the sleeve.
