617,505. Valves. CAMERON IRON WORKS. Aug. 3, 1945, No. 20047. Convention date. Aug. 18, 1944. [Class 135] A valve for highpressure fluids comprises a closure member 11 co - operating with a seat member 12 loosely confined in a cavity in the valve casing 1 and floatingly supported in the cavity by a flowable mass of sealing material capable of being introduced into the cavity through a check valve. In the tapered pluglift valve shown in Fig. 1, the screwed operating spindle 6 is loosely coupled to the valve plug 11 by annular collars 9 engaging grooves 10. The walls of both the hollow plug 11 and the seat member 12 are sufficiently thin to be mutually flexible when brought together. The spindle 6 is mounted in a bonnet 4 which serves to hold in place the seat member 12, a spacing sleeve 18 and a washer 17. A further washer 14 surrounds the spindle 6 and the space between the washers 14, 17 contains cup rings 15, 16. Plastic packing material is forced into the space between the rings 15, 16 through openings 24 from a groove communicating with a chamber 19 containing a check valve 22 and a compression screw 21. The packing material is led through further grooves 25 in the casing 1 to the outer surface of the seat member 12 and the spacing sleeve 18. The grooves 25 are joined by channels such as 26a above and below the seat member. The plug cock, Fig. 4, has an operating spindle 36 connected to a valve plug 41 through an Oldham coupling 39. Plastic packing is supplied to the space between the sealing rings 45, 46 of the gland 34 through an opening 53. The packing reaches the outer surface of the scat member 42, which is prevented from rotating by a key 42a, by a passageway 54 communicating with grooves 55, 56, 56a.'
