Abstract
995,829. Valves. SPEMBLY Ltd. May 22, 1964, No. 21153/64. Heading F2V. A valve which has a body 1 with a thinwalled inlet and outlet tube welded thereto, is provided with a stuffing box consisting of upper and lower parts 10, 8 interconnected by a thin-walled tube 12, each of the parts housing a P.T.F.E. seal 11, 9 respectively. The movable closure member 3 in a body chamber 2 has a stem 13, the intermediate portion 16 of which is a thin tube. The lower seal 9 is disposed between a washer 17 and a threaded brass ring 19, whilst the upper seal 11 sits on a washer 20 and is surmounted by a brass gland ring 21 into which the stem 13 is threaded. The member 3 has a P.T.F.E. seating face 24. The body 1 and stuffing box is enclosed in a jacket 26 which is evacuated and/or filled with a powdered thermal insulator. Except for the hand wheel, jacket and other parts mentioned above the valve is made of stainless steel. The seals and closure member may be removed without disturbing the insulating arrangements.
