A conical closure H, displaceable upon threaded spindle G, effects closure within aperture L of seating ring K, made of soft material, e.g. polytetrafluoroethylene, which fits loosely within valve chamber N and is thereby expanded into sealing contact with chamber shoulder M and the cylindrical wall around the periphery K 2 of the ring K. A lantern ring J is provided which may be made integral with the seating ring K.
