Abstract

749,530. Valve closure members. HAMMEL-DAHL CO. Aug. 26,1953, No. 23561/53. Class 135. In a valve comprising a closure member in the form of a cylindrical plug 17 guided in a sleeve 20 in the valve casing 10 and having an annular seating face 25 at one end adapted to cooperate with a seat 16 in a passage 18 between inlet and outlet ports 13, 14, the seating end of a passage 21 through the plug is closed by an end wall 26 having openings 27 therein which are bevelled on one or both sides. As shown at 28, the openings 27 are bevelled only on the upper side of the wall 26, the largest diameter of the holes being on the upper side. With this arrangement the lateral pressures at the end of the valve tend to act along the bevelled surfaces and chattering of the valve is thereby prevented. The plug 17 is connected through a spider 30 at its upper end to a stem 23 for operation by a motor. A seal 24 as described in Specification 665,871 and U.S.A. Specification 2,613,962 is arranged round the upper end of the plug.
