Lift valves; leakage, preventing; casings,- A screw-down lift valve is provided with a packing gland 11 screwing directly into the inner extremity of the cap 4 and the valve jumper 6 is arranged to seat on the same side of the seating partition as that on which the cap is disposed, as shown. By this arrangement the jumper and packing gland are immediately accessible by unscrewing the cap 4 from the valve casing. The bore through the cap is threaded for the screwed spindle, and the external diameter is the same as that of the adjacent part 2 of the casing to facilitate cleaning.
