Abstract

[Class 35] The brush carried by the rotor of an induction motor is lifted by a speed responsive member but the brush itself is unresponsive to centrifugal force. In the form shown, the speed responsive plate 10 has a hole for the passage of the shaft 4 and is pivoted at 11 on a plate 5 rotatable with the rotor in such manner that it moves to the right as the speed rises and its projection 13 strikes the brush carrying lever 6 and raises the brush 1 from slip ring 8. The lever 6 is pivoted at 3 and carries a counterweight 7 so that centrifugal force does not influence the brush. A modified form is described for a brush co-operating with a pair of slip rings in a common radial plane. The brush movement interrupts the auxiliary starting winding circuit.
