Abstract

528,000. Speedometers. DUWE, A. April 25, 1939, No. 12431. [Class 106 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] Apparatus for indicating when a particular speed is attained by an engine comprises switch contacts b which, when operated by a centrifugal member 4, close a circuit including a mechanically operated make and break 20 and a lamp 28, and contacts c and e which, when operated by a centrifugal member 5 shunt the make and break 20. If the member 4 is adjusted to swing over when the particular speed is approached and the member 5 swings over when the speed is reached it will be seen that an intermittent signal will be emitted by lamp 28 on close approach to the particular speed and a continuous signal will be emitted from the lamp when the speed is reached. The member 5 may also operate a contact d which puts a further make and break 21 in connection with an electrically operated counter 29 which will then indicate the number of revolutions the engine makes at or above the particular speed. The contacts 20 and 21 are driven by cams on a shaft 24 driven by gearing from the shaft 2 of the engine. The members 4 and 5 are astatic pendulums mounted on a disc 3 revolving with shaft 2.
