Abstract
738,159. Induction machines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and FOREMAN, E. F. June 19, 1953 [March 26, 1952], No. 7770/52. Class 35. A split-phase capacitor motor has a squirrel cage rotor 2 on the shaft of which an iron part 13 is rigidly mounted and is so arranged upon operation of the motor as to rotate relatively to a winding 17 and to lock the motor speed due to the effect of the impulses supplied from the mains to the winding 17. The impulses, which are caused by inserting a rectifier 18 in the circuit of the winding 17, cause the motor to run synchronously. The motor operates primarily as an induction motor to provide the major part of the driving torque and is only caused to run synchronously by the application of the electric impulses.
