672,637. Synchronous machines. NEVILLE, S., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Dec. 20, 1949 [Nov. 24, 1948], No. 30603/50. Divided out of 672,652. Class 35. A synchronous machine is excited by a main exciter which in turn is excited by an auxiliary exciter consisting of a permanent magnet alternator which supplies the field winding of the main exciter with D.C. via a rectifier, the auxiliary exciter being located next to the main machine. Fig. 2 shows an auxiliary exciter 24, 25 located between the main machine 11, 12 and the main exciter 17, 20, the three rotors 24, 11, 17 of the auxiliary exciter, main machine and main exciter respectively being all mounted on a shaft 10. Specification 672,652 is referred to.
