Abstract

648,665. Dynamo-electric machines. MEREVALE ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and ALLISON, A. Nov. 12, 1948, No. 29422. [Class 36] In a squirrel-cage induction motor having an external rotor m, the squirrel-cage conductor bars o are used to secure the end covers p of the machine. The end-covers carry bearings q by which the rotor rotates on a fixed shaft c which supports the internal stator a. The securing nuts s may have a split conical grip with the end covers. In the form shown, for an electric fan, the fan blades are secured to the rotor core, but in a modification (not shown) some of the rotor bars are cast integral with an end-ring and one of the end covers which carries the blades. Alternatively the other end cover which is secured by the conductor bolts as before may carry the fan blades. If required for other drives, pulley or gear wheels may replace the fan blades. Some of the bars may be of high and others of low resistance, and both the bars and end covers may be of iron, brass, copper, aluminium or other metal.
