Abstract
905,632. Electric motors. PAPST, H. Oct. 1, 1959, No. 33276/59. Class 35. An induction motor, Figs. 3 and 4, comprises a stator 10 radially surrounded by an external rotor having an iron core 11, 13 associated with a squirrel cage 12, 14 made of a material having a higher electrical conductivity than that of the remainder of the rotor, the core and cage being surrounded by a cast-on outer sheath 15 of a material of higher mechanical strength and lower electrical conductivity than the squirrel cage. The cage may be of copper or aluminium and the sheath of aluminium alloy. As shown, the core comprises a tube 11 and bars 13 which alternate with the cage bars 12, and the sheath has stiffening ribs 16, cooling vanes, and a hub 18 mounting it on a shaft 19 running in bearings 20. In Fig. 2, are shown synchronizing grooves 7 filled with either a non-magnetic material or the sheath material. Cast integrally with the sheath may be a driven fan or a step pulley, Figs. 5 and 6, not shown, or a flywheel or a conveyer roller. Specification 789,038 is referred to.
