Abstract
820,280. Inductor alternator frequency changers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. May 23, 1957 [May 23, 1956], No. 15967/56. Class 35. In a motor-alternator set for use as a frequency converter and comprising a squirrel cage induction motor 2 driving an inductor alternator 1 both being arranged concentrically within the alternator frame 15, the motor rotor 10 surrounds the motor stator 11 and is mechanically connected to the alternator rotor 6 the two rotors 10, 6 being arranged to rotate solidly within an annular space between the two stators 11,3. The motor stator 11 which is keyed to a stationary shaft 9 has a winding 12 supplied by leads, not shown, led through a hole, not shown, in the shaft. The motor and alternator motors 10, 6, which respectively carry the squirrel cage winding 13 and no winding, are keyed to a cylindrical hub member 7 rotatable via bearings 8 on the shaft 9 and drive a common ventilating fan 14. The alternator which may be of the heteropolar inductor type, has excitation and output windings 4, 5 on its stator 3. In the Provisional Specification the driving motor alternatively may be of either the direct current or synchronous types.
