Abstract
1,125,405. Electric motors; motor-driving arrangements. GLOBE INDUSTRIES Inc. 21 Jan., 1966 [2 Feb., 1965], No. 2868/68. Heading H2A. A central core member 14 having slots 16 and wound to provide, e.g. four poles, has secured to it an outer yoke ring 22 provided with outwardly-directed teeth 24. A surrounding unwound housing member 28 secured to a shaft 2 mounted in bearings 4, 6, in the core member is provided with internally-toothed laminations 34; the number of yoke ring teeth exceeds the number of housing teeth. As shown, the outer parts 28, 34, constitute the rotor, and the inner parts 14, 22, the stator. When the stator is supplied with A.C., and an out-ofphase relationship is established in the current supply to the winding, a rotating magnetic field is created, but the rotor rotates at a fraction of the synchronous speed. The reduction ratio is given by: the smaller number of teeth divided by the difference in numbers of teeth. For D.C. excitation, a plurality of coils are provided in the slots 16 and are pulsed with D.C. in a sequential manner. Preferably the difference in numbers of teeth on the yoke ring and housing is equal to the number of stator magnetic poles, or a multiple of this number. The member described as stator may rotate, and the " rotor " remain stationary. Both members may rotate, two output shafts then being provided.
