Abstract
948,013. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. May 23, 1961 [May 20, 1960], No. 18626/61. Heading H2A. An asynchronous A.C. motor is cooled by a fan, mounted on the rotor shaft so as to rotate with respect to it, driven by an auxiliary fan motor, which acts as a commutatorless A.C. machine having a smaller number of poles than the main motor, and which has its " stator " rigidly connected to the rotor of the main motor and fed with the rotor current thereof. The arrangement is such that when the speed of the rotor of the main motor changes in one sense, the speed of the fan changes in the opposite sense. As described, some of the bars 7 of a 6-pole 3-phase squirrel cage motor 1 are extended axially along slots in the laminations 6 of the auxiliary motor driving the fan 4 and are shorted by a shorting ring 12. The remaining bars are shorted by an intermediate shorting ring 11 which is shaped to avoid shorting the extended bars a, b, c, d and a<SP>1</SP>, bl, c<SP>1</SP>, d<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2. In order to produce a sinusoidal field in the auxiliary motor, the bars 7 may be bent over in the spaces between ring 11 and laminating 6. The auxiliary rotor 8, which may be for example a permanent magnet or reluctance type is mounted together with the fan 4 on a loose sleeve 9 on the shaft 3 so that the speed of rotation of the fan is equal to the sum of the two motor speeds.
