Abstract

1,256,091. Induction motors. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 14 May, 1969 [14 May, 1968], No. 22799/68. Heading H2A. The self-cascaded induction motor according to Specification 1,155,743 is modified by increasing the number of rotor bars so as to decrease the leakage reactance of the rotor winding. As shown in Fig. 6, U-shaped bars 2, 3, 4 are fitted in slots between the bars 1 of the squirrel cage and connected to one of the end rings. In another embodiment, Fig. 7 (not shown) an eleven-bar squirrel cage has a single U-shaped bar between each pair of bars. Such a winding, when subjected to a 6-pole field, produces a 22-pole cascade speed. Examples of stator windings are also given. Fig. 8 (not shown) illustrates a 3-phase winding providing two parallel paths per phase at one pole member and a multi-phase short-circuit at a second pole member. As in Specification 1,155,743, the stator winding may be D.C. excited at the second pole member to produce synchronous operation and pole-charging may be effected by pole-amplitude-modulation, Figs. 10 and 9 respectively (not shown).
