Abstract

1450031 Induction motors EDA (OVERSEAS) Ltd 21 Dec 1973 [23 Dec 1972] 29511/72 Heading H2A In an induction motor drive arrangement, the rotor is formed as a self-contained unit 10 which may be mounted on a shaft 92 in order to drive a load 90, and the stator together with a support frame 72 to which it is releasably secured, is formed as a further such unit which may be independently positioned on a base 94 relative to the rotor unit whereby to make the drive operable. The rotor shown comprises a spiral steel strip annular core 12 and a flat squirrel cage including inner and outer shorting rings 18, 20 interconnected by radial bars 16 in bores 14 in the core. A dynamic balancing ring 22, which is formed integrally with ring 20 at the time of centrifugally casting the cage, carries cooling blades 26. The stator comprises a similar spiral strip annular core 50 with windings 56 mounted in slots 52 in the front face 54 of the core in order to produce a magnetic field which extends axially away from the core, and the windings are looped around electromagnet yoke bodies 66 in order to induce currents in the rotor ring 22, the currents producing forces which act to oppose the normal force of attraction between the rotor and stator. The stator core 50 is releasably secured within a cylindrical aperture in the support frame 72 via a flanged plate 60, threaded holes 58 in the back of the core receiving screws (62, Fig. 4, not shown) through the plate, and threaded holes in the flange 64 of the plate receiving screws 80 through the frame. In the embodiment of Figs. 6, 7 (not shown) the frame (72<SP>1</SP>) is provided with sockets (100) on its exterior whereby the stator and frame may be fixed directly on to the casing of a load, the rotor then being on the remote side of the stator relative to the load. In the embodiment of Fig. 8 (not shown) a pair of stators (110, 112) are arranged to form a sandwich with a common rotor (114) and in that of Fig. 9 (not shown) two rotors (120, 122) form a sandwich with a common stator (126).
