773,474. Induction motors; cooling electric motors. SCHMID, W. K. Sept. 6, 1955 [Nov. 20, 1954], No. 25502/55. Addition to 740,603. Class 35. A wound-rotor induction motor whose speed is controlled by rotor-current impulses of various durations is provided with a fan 14 driven by a special squirrel-cage rotor 15 within the main stator 4 and carried by bearings 11 on the motor shaft. The main rotor speed is controlled by intermittent short-circuiting by a rotating contact drum 21 engaged by a series of brushes 28-33 which are selectively contacted by a brush 35 on contact strip 34. As soon as the sliding contact 35 moves from A to B to start the motor, brush 36 engages strip-contact 37, thus energizing relay RL which places resistor 39 across the rotor slip-rings 8, 9 to carry the bulk of the rotor current, thus relieving the contact drum 21. At the top speed, contacts 40, 41 are bridged which closes relay RS to short circuit the rotor winding.
