A domestic floor polishing machine is provided with an asynchronous electric driving motor including a ring winding. In the machine illustrated the motor comprises a laminated ring wound stator 6 and a squirrel-cage rotor 5 mounted on a sleeve 4 carrying a dust-suction and motor-cooling fan 2. The assembly is such that it may be mounted in a casing 1 of low height.
