Abstract

528,020. Dynamo-electric machines. NEWTON, F. April 26, 1939. No. 12522. [Class 35] An inductor alternator has a rotor with coaxial and opposite smooth and toothed surfaces, the latter being concave, and a stator with smooth and toothed surfaces coaxial with, opposite and respectively adjacent to the smooth and toothed surfaces of the rotor. In the form shown, the L-sectioned yoke 2 carries the exciting-coil 5 and the laminated toothed stator core 3 with the induced winding 4 in the cylindrical casing 1. The rotor 6, with a smooth outer and a toothed inner surface, is mounted by means of a non-magnetic disc 7 on the shaft 8, the bearing 9 of which is contained in the yoke 2. When a driving motor is included in the same machine, as shown, its fixed yoke is formed by a continuation 13 of the casing 1. Cooling air enters through openings 11 in the stator and flows over the disc 7, with or without the aid of fan blades, traverses the inter-toothed gaps and leaves by openings 12. Blades 18 on the rotor disc may pass cooling air for the motor through its air gap between openings 16, 17.
