[Class 35] A tachometer generator for a traction motor has its rotor on an extension of the main motor shaft or the bearing retaining member secured thereto, the stator being mounted in a bearing or inspection cover together with a magnetic shunt for the generator. As shown, the magnet 4 is carried by a non-magnetic member 2 serving also to retain the inner race of a bearing (not shown) for the motor shaft 1 and an adjustable magnetic shunt 6 permits adjustment of the voltage generated. The stator 9 is carried by the bearing end cap or inspection cover 10.
