A synchronous motor has a inertia member loose on its shaft but urged to rotate with the rotor under normal conditions by magnetic attraction. As shown, the inertia member 7, 8 is held against the rotor 5 by the attraction of the magnetic part 8 by the permanent magnet poles of the rotor which co-operates with an imbricated pole stator.
