Abstract
881,249. Electric motors. MAGNETICS (LONDON) Ltd. April 7, 1960 [April 7, 1959], No. 11692/59. Class 35. In a permanent magnet rotor for an electric motor the magnet has salient poles but is axially magnetized, the flux being carried by soft iron end cheeks 4 of the same profile as the magnet, to pole pieces 11 overlapping the magnet poles at each end so that all the poles at each end are of the same polarity. The cheeks may be made of mild steel and the rotor shaft 3 of non-magnetic stainless steel. Surrounding the rotor is a stator intermittently excited by means of a make and break driven by the shaft. Specification 547,668 is referred to.
