Abstract
955,986. Electric motors. SOLARI & C./UDINE S.p.A. Sept. 19, 1960 [Sept. 18, 1959], No. 32182/60. Heading H2A. An electromagnetic stepping motor comprises a rotor including a permanent magnet which is magnetized in the direction of the rotor axis and two axially spaced magnetisable discs which are arranged on opposite sides of the permanent magnet and have equal numbers of pole members uniformly spaced about the axis and extending towards one another to interdigitate and form at least six magnetic poles of alternate polarity, and a stator carrying an energizing winding and having two pole carriers each extending round a portion of the rotor and together surrounding almost the whole of the rotor, the pole carriers having a combined number of stator pole members one more than the number of pairs of rotor pole members, the air gap between the rotor and stator in the region between each two adjacent stator pole members of each pole caused decreasing in the required direction of rotation of the rotor to ensure that when the stator is energized by pulses of alternating polarity the rotation of the rotor always takes place in the same direction. In the embodiment described, which has a symmetrical ten-pole rotor, the variation of the air-gap is achieved by shaping the laminated stator pole carriers 3 and 3<SP>1</SP>, but the Specification states that the desired result could be achieved using asymmetrically shaped rotor pole shoes in conjunction with symmetrically profiled stator pole members.
